Ancestry DNA
Has anyone else done their DNA test with Ancestry. I have done mine but there are so many names weeding thru has been a bit daunting, especially because so many use a screen name vs their own and I don't have an active account so I can not really see others trees to see how they might fit. I know I get 7 free days but I want to make sure I am going to have 7 days to really focus and let's face it that is hard to accomplish haha Also I want to thank you guys for the work on all of this! It's been a long time since I have connected and thought of the group today and looked to see if we had a FB group or not but it seems we do not :-D Ok So I babbled a bit beyond the DNA question sorry! hehe

Hi cousins! (8C1R and 7C2R, I think?) I've tested on AncestryDNA and 23andMe, and I've exported those results to GEDmatch (kit BJ168341C1) and FamilyTreeDNA. Kasey, I found your profile by username and we're not a DNA match—we must be too far apart genetically. I've run across other Blue-descended cousins (I've traced as far out as 4th cousins) who have tested, and sorting through the Blue matches on ThruLines is on my eventual to-do list.
If you're not a current Ancestry member, one workaround is to use Ancestry Library Edition. It's available through most public libraries, although remote at-home access will end later this month.
(Sidenote: I've been using DNA Painter to sort out matched segments, and so far I've identified about 1.6% of my DNA that originates with an ancestor named Blue. I'm just getting started, so that will only increase. The theoretical average for a 2GG is 6.25%.)
On the topic of genetic genealogy, does anyone know if anyone in the NBFA has had contact with the FamilyTreeDNA Blue surname project? (https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/blue/about/) The project administrator is George Blue, who comes from the Guinea Blue and Bridge Blue (Scottish) families. From the Y-DNA results, both the Dutch and Scottish branches are represented: https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Blue?iframe=ycolorized However, in the project's list of surnames, I don't see all known variations (Blew, Blaw, etc.).
