Blau's

Seeing as how we all seem to have common interest in some very similar family names, perhaps there is someone who can add to my information of the Blau family line from northern Kentucky/southwestern Ohio? My line of Blau came over from Prussia in 1843 and settled in the Camp Springs, Kentucky area. They then gradually moved north, first to the Cincinnati area including Hamilton, Ohio, then even more northwards towards Cleveland, Ohio. There are branches that I am currently trying to track down that moved down to Alabama after the Civil War, also. And maybe in this process I can help someone else in their searches! Stranger things have happened. 😎

Hi Patrick. It would be wholly appropriate and my pleasure to add info on your Blau Family to our NBFA website. I will send you an email and perhaps we can work on a way to exchange info! Best regards, Ted Blew. NBFA Online Communications.

Hannah Blue 1.1.3.3, daughter of Uriah Blue & Mary Jordan

Hello all, I have just joined this site and am looking forward to learning more about my Blue family roots. Hannah was my 4X great grandmother, and I see from the genealogy that my line stops with her. Is there a way to include more information about her descendants?

Scots in Carolinas: Malcolm John Blue and Daniel Angus Blue

Hi-thanks for accepting me to the group. I've traced my family to Malcolm John Blue, one if not the earliest Blue emigrant families from Argyll, Scotland. I'm stuck there and looking for information now on his relatives in Scotland. 2nd issue: I see his lineage report on this site stops at Daniel Angus Blue (4th generation) (my great grandfather). I have more information on DA Blue and his family line if anyone is interested.

Daniel Angus Blue was my great grandfather and I have traced my family tree to Malcolm John Blue-who was not the Malcolm BLUE from the farm, however I'm pretty sure they were cousins. I don't have any information on the ownership of the farm, but it comes up a lot in research. My father, Miller Monroe Blue (son of Cornelius McPherson Blue) was an orphan at the age of 5. After writing to the orphanage, my cousins and I were able to trace our roots to DA Blue and beyond. Glad we connected!

NJ Blaw Sites Tours Available

I am offering to give free, guided, half-day tours of the early Blaw/Blauw-family settlement area near present-day Blawenburg, New Jersey. These tours will basically replicate, in a compressed format, the NBFA New Jersey Reunion visits held in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2018 [see 'More|Reunions' on this website]. Small groups of 2 to 4 persons are preferred. If interested, contact me at eoblew@gmail.com.

Things to see/do in Romney WV area?

My family will be traveling to Timberline Mountain, WV June 20-25 to escape our FL heat. We'll pass close to Romney and thought we'd stop there for lunch and see where our ancestors settled so long ago. Any suggestions on things to see or do? Any old Blue cemeteries or homesteads? Is it known where John Blue (1691-1770) first settled? I noticed there's a John Blue bridge and a Blues Beach. Thanks-Jeff

@Ted Blew 1.3.2.3.3.5.10.8.4

Thanks Ted. I'll contact Ephraim. I read the reunion reports which gave me several possibilities for our stop. I have several copies of Hanging Rock Rebel and have read it. I also have History of Hampshire County WV by Maxwell and Swisher. I'll try to include a trip to NJ to see sites there in the future. Thanks again - Jeff

The Blue's from Ontario

Hi Folks

I am writing this because my 10 year-old son asked me recently about his family tree for school. I knew where to turn to! This website!

In 2001/2 when became interested in my history I found Sarah Bitter. She said I was one of "us". I got entranced in my ancestry in the early 2000's. Then I found this site and Sarah let us know of the reunion. I told my family. So, we attended with my grandfather, father and family at

the reunion in Romney. We drove down! Blue Rock, the cemetery with too many Blue names, but most importantly that warm, welcoming lady with the magnificent Magnolia tree.

Growing up in Ontario, Canada my surname was unique. Very few of us, none actually. No relations in my town. My Dad was from from the next county over. So it was only one "Blue" family!

Hi Ryan. Great to hear from a cousin across the border! Have you found your Blue ancestors in the Dutch Genealogy section of our website? If not, let me know and I can help with that. I come from the Blew's that migrated from NJ to the anthracite coal region of PA [Schuylkill County] and haven't wandered too far from there :). Best, Ted.

Facebook groups for descendants of 1.3.2.1.2.2 and

The name of our Facebook group is Descendants of John S Blew and Ann M Tibbets of Sheldrake, NY.

The name of another group for 1.3.2.1.2.2.15 is Great Grandchildren of Ernest Roscoe Blew and Jennie Billings Blew. In photos on there is our family chart handed down from 1968 made from research done in 1923 by Nathaniel Townley Sr, husband of Delia Scott Blew 1.3.2.1.2.2.16, which I also have. These can be zoomed on tablets to be read more easily .

It would seem he was not correct about the first 2 generations on there.

I don’t know if these groups can be read by nonmembers, but if anyone is interested in joining, then please do.

Ancestry DNA

Has anyone else done their DNA test with Ancestry. I have done mine but there are so many names weeding thru has been a bit daunting, especially because so many use a screen name vs their own and I don't have an active account so I can not really see others trees to see how they might fit. I know I get 7 free days but I want to make sure I am going to have 7 days to really focus and let's face it that is hard to accomplish haha Also I want to thank you guys for the work on all of this! It's been a long time since I have connected and thought of the group today and looked to see if we had a FB group or not but it seems we do not :-D Ok So I babbled a bit beyond the DNA question s…

Hi cousins! (8C1R and 7C2R, I think?) I've tested on AncestryDNA and 23andMe, and I've exported those results to GEDmatch (kit BJ168341C1) and FamilyTreeDNA. Kasey, I found your profile by username and we're not a DNA match—we must be too far apart genetically. I've run across other Blue-descended cousins (I've traced as far out as 4th cousins) who have tested, and sorting through the Blue matches on ThruLines is on my eventual to-do list.

If you're not a current Ancestry member, one workaround is to use Ancestry Library Edition. It's available through most public libraries, although remote at-home access will end later this month.

(Sidenote: I've been using DNA Painter to sort out matched segments, and so far I've identified about 1.6% of my DNA that originates with an ancestor named Blue. I'm just getting started, so that will only increase. The theoretical average for a 2GG is 6.25%.)

On the topic of genetic genealogy, does anyone know if anyone in the NBFA has had contact with the FamilyTreeDNA Blue surname project? (https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/blue/about/) The project administrator is George Blue, who comes from the Guinea Blue and Bridge Blue (Scottish) families. From the Y-DNA results, both the Dutch and Scottish branches are represented: https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Blue?iframe=ycolorized However, in the project's list of surnames, I don't see all known variations (Blew, Blaw, etc.).
